Moving!

I figured I should probably actually make an LJ entry about all this.

The Friday after next I'll be moving up north to Emu Park, which is a suburb up near Rockhampton. The house we're renting is right next to the beach. There isn't even a road in between. I expect everyone to be very jealous of me. So anyway, I'm pretty excited about that.

Not so excited about the 8 hour car ride. My mum's going to download me some TV shows to watch on her ipad (I may have to just listen since I get travel sick) and I'm trying to get hold of some podfics to listen to, though I've never been able to enjoy them in the past. Worth a try, right? I may have internet access if my sister gives me this thingo she said she would, so I may be able to chat with people. The charge on my laptop lasts less than 4 hours, though, so unless I can find some way to charge it in the car that won't last the whole trip. I suppose I have other things to do, though, so it won't matter that much. Maybe. Depends. Wonder if I can even chat without getting crazy travel sick? We won't even be able to stop for long because we'll have various pets in the car with us.

Packing won't take long, but we have to get the whole house clean which is a lot of work. My mum injured her ankle, so I had to do a lot of the carrying of stuff out to the skip to throw away when that was here. I'm probably super strong now. I also bruise super easily, so I end up covered in bruises.

I feel kinda sick... hopefully this doesn't last, because it's not terribly conductive to getting shit done.

It's also been raining forever, making it really difficult to dry any clothes or anything we need washed. I hope it stops for at least a day or two before we move.

If you want to see some pictures of the house, ask me on chat and I'll link you to the ad for it. Don't want to link here because it has the address...

As much as you'll hear me complain about me not wanting to go to the beach every holiday because my little brother INSISTS, the beach is a nice place to live. The crashing of waves at night and being able to go and swim with fish and other unnamed creatures is fun. XD Don't forget sunblock! :>

Oh and have you tried researching about some pharmaceutical drugs for car/motion sickness? O:

Good luck and safe travels while moving! :)

I'm probably on enough drugs as it is. I think it's just a natural human response to the experience of being in a car, anyway. I only get it if I look at something for extended periods.

Did you say podfic? :O
But good on you! (I think. That sounds like some serious travel.)

Unless you hate the beach or like, the ocean or something. Because that would suck. :( And in that case, I'm sorry.

Speaking of podfic, where are you going to get them? Is it another place besides the audio book archive for fanfic? (which is this ---> http://audiofic.jinjurly.com/, in case you didn't know)

Re: Did you say podfic? :O
No, I think the beach is awesome! :)

I haven't really found a good source for original slash podfics yet, but a friend of mine said she'll record some for me so maybe that will work out?

Moving is such a pain in the ass :/ Having done it many, many times this year, I wish you good luck and no forgetting of things and cooperative weather.

I get terrible motion sickness as well. Dramamine or whatever works okay, but mostly just makes me sleepy. So I usually opt to stay up all night (doing packing and stuff that I procrastinated) and then sleep in the car.

Good luck, and enjoy that beach!

We'll have to be up super early so I likely will be quite tired. Still, I'd rather be rested because it's gonna be a loooong day.

But really, I'm looking forward to it because it's going to be wonderful living so close to the beach.

OMG YOU'RE MOVING INTO A BEACH HOUSE. I am jealous! Sort of, anyway... I don't think I'd actually want to live on the beach for real, but I like the idea of it.

I love/find it hilarious that you're moving to a place called Emu Park. Hard to explain why, exactly... I just... love that there's a place called Emu Park! It's so... Australian! Maybe I only find it awesome and funny because I'm not Australian, I mean, I'm sure emus are nothing exciting to you. Although I think some of the hilarity is unavoidable, I mean, "emu" is just a funny-sounding word and a funny name for anything. It's like... "Weasel Park".

/delirious rambling

...Good luck with your move! :DD

I've never seen an emu in the wild before. They don't just wander the streets... except maybe in Emu Park. This picture was in the 'scenic tour' images on the Emu Park website: http://www.emuparkonline.com.au/Scenic_Tour/pic09-emus.jpg

We actually pronounce emu different from you guys. You say it E-moo and we say it E-mee-you, which is somewhat less silly.

Haha, it sure does look like they wander the streets in Emu Park! That could be... interesting. Both fun and alarming and maybe a bit scary, like moose in Alaska.

Pffff, I've never said it Ee-moo, that's ridiculous. I've always said Ee-myou (Ee-mew?), which I still think is a funny word. (Are you actually saying it with three syllables there?)

Yup, we say it with three syllables, which is pretty impressive for a three letter word. But Ee-mew is pretty close.

Interesting! I DID NOT KNOW THAT ABOUT THE WORD 'EMU'. :D

You seem excessively excited about this!

...Yeah I'm not really sure why? Haha when I read your email on my Droid I announced that fact out loud with some amount of excitement to my coworkers, and they were like, "That's cool! ...Why are we all of a sudden talking about emus...? :D?"

I think it's a combination of Emus Are Cool and Australia Is Cool and Foreign Stuff In General Is Cool and Linguistics Is Cool and Learning Stuff Is Cool and I Am A Nerd, and all of these individually mildly cool things sort of stacked up into Awesomely Cool, and also I'm in a fairly good mood and did I mention I'm a nerd...?

Also I'm underslept. I'm not sure my brain is quite trustworthy today. ^_^;;

Well if I see any emus I'll be sure to take pictures for you. Emus are pretty awesome, as long as they're not eviscerating you with their claws.

The emu is just less likely to eat you after it kills you. Although, they are omnivores...
